Meet Rustic Bones. Jessica is a photographer and blogger who has a rare aesthetic and eye for beautiful composition that immediately draws her viewers into a dreamy rustic reverie. I fell in love with her style as soon as I came across her instagram page and we are so proud to have her now as a brand ambassador and muse for Catori Life. I regularly share her blog posts here, and recently asked her to do this interview with us so we could all get to know her a little better.
What inspired you to get into blogging ?
Blogging was something I always wanted to do, but when I was in college I just didn’t have the time. After I decided to leave my major I wanted to get back into photography (what I originally went to school for, but switched to dietetics) and decided to combine it with my other interest, fashion. Although my blog is still a baby (<1 year!) I’m excited to see where it will go in 2016.
What do you love the most about it?
Ever since I started my blog I’ve learned a lot about myself and who I am as an artist. I’ve met and worked with some inspiring brands and people (including Catori Life! <3). But most of all being able to express myself and to be creative!
Your photos are stunning, how long have you been a photographer?
Thank you! I’ve actually been taking photos since I was young. I remember really wanting a camera when I was younger and my parents gifted me with a simple point and shoot film camera. I had no idea what I was doing so I would adventure into my backyard and take photos of my mom’s flowers! Sometimes I would even dress up my cat and take photos of her (it was really funny!). When I got into high school I invested in a DSLR camera, signed up for photography classes, and would make my friends model for me. This was also the time I was getting really into fashion, so I had a lot of fun styling them too! I then attended FIT in Manhatten to pursue photography, but wasn’t there long because I was really lost during that time of my life. I transferred into another school and was a dietetic major. Although I love nutrition, I couldn’t be creative in that field which really drained me. I had to get out, and I got back into photography with my blog. Even though I was scared it felt like the right direction for me. And that’s my complicated photography story! 🙂
What & who inspires you?
I find inspiration from everywhere! My surroundings has definitely shaped the person I am today, including my fashion and photography. I also love finding other brands and people on social media. There are so many amazing creative minds in the world and I love looking at their work!
What is your favorite quote?
“She was free in her wildness. She was a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belonged to no man and to no city.” – Roman Payne, The Wanderess
Coffee or tea?
It’s funny because I used to be such a tea person (I literally would drink around 5 cups of tea a day) and I switched over to being a full-time coffee addict this past year! I rarely drink tea anymore, it’s actually pretty sad. I’m currently too obsessed with Jamaican me Crazy coffee to switch back to tea!
Whats your sign?
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
I actually wouldn’t live anywhere. My dream is to live and travel on the road, take photos, and dream under the stars.
Who are your favorite bloggers?
This is tough because there are a lot of amazing bloggers! I really like Sarah Loven’s blog at Ready Gypset Go, I love seeing her fashion and lifestyle on the road. I also love Elle-May Leckenbuy and Astro Bandit because of their unique, free-spirited vibe.
What are you hoping to see happen in your life in 2016?
Of course the first thing I would like to see in my life is for me to just continue being happy. Happiness always comes first. When it comes to my photography & blog I would really like to expand my work and even travel around the country to take photos! I’m also hoping to take more risks, go outside my comfort zone, and dream a little bit more!
